Winter At The Ranch
Sunday, November 6th, 2011Imagine a vista of snow covered meadows and mountains. You curled up in front of a roaring log fire, cup of hot chocolate, homebaked cookies and that bestseller you’ve been meaning to read all year. Breath in that clean crisp air as you walk through the meadows, winter sun on your face. Sleep restfully in your handcrafted log bed in your cabin hidden amongst the trees. You know you deserve a break!

Our close proximity to Sun Peaks Resort makes us an ideal location for a winter getaway. The ski resort is only 15 minutes drive from the ranch on well maintained roads and here you can experience a wide variety of snow sports. Even closer to the ranch are the Cahilty snowmobile trails – just 5 minutes away.
Tod Mountain Ranch is the perfect relaxing winter getaway. Relax and enjoy the comfort and tranquility of the ranch or take advantage of our close proximity to Sun Peaks Resort for skiing and snow sports activities. Rates from $60 per person.

The Team Behind The Scenes
Tuesday, June 21st, 2011Over the past few months, we have introduced you to the team including the Wranglers, Chef, Interns and of course our horses. There are however a couple of other team members that we couldn’t function without and although they don’t work full time at the ranch, they are very much part of the team and make a significant contribution to the success of our operation.

Leon Lytton, AFA Certified Journeyman Farrier. Leon is a regular visitor to the ranch where he trims and shoes all of our horses throughout the year. Our horses are shod from April – October and need to have their hooves trimmed and shoes fitted every 6 – 7 weeks. During the winter months, when the horses are not worked, Leon visits them every 8 weeks to trim their hooves. This helps keep their feet in good condition ready for starting work in April.

Dr. Marlin Mason is a member of the BC College of Veterinarians and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Mason has been providing equine and large animal vet services in the Kamloops area for almost 20 years and is the attending Veterinarian at Tod Mountain Ranch for the past 3 years. During the spring, Dr. Mason spends several days at the ranch giving each of our horses a thorough health check and carrying out routine procedures including dental work (floating teeth), sheath cleaning and administering vaccinations.
The regular attention our horses get from Dr. Mason and Leon ensures that the herd is in tip top condition, fit and ready to take our guests safely along the trail throughout the season.
The Latest Arrivals
Sunday, June 19th, 2011Meet Chip & Sarge, the two latest additions to our herd.

Chip (on the right in the picture) is a 13 year old Quarter Horse gelding and comes to us from a working ranch close to Cache Creek. Chip has already passed his probation and is proving to be a great guest horse for novice and experienced riders.
Sarge is a cute 14 year old brown gelding who is currently in training as a trail horse. Having spent several years working at a cattle feed lot, he seems to have eaten more than his fair share! We’re working him into shape and it won’t be long before he’s ready to join the others taking guests out on the trail.
Meet Michaela & Laura – Our Summer Interns
Saturday, June 18th, 2011This summer we are fortunate to have two amazing students taking part in our Intern programme. Both Laura and Michaela arrived at the beginning of June and have already settled into ranch life very well. Throughout they summer, they will rotate through all departments on the ranch and get involved in every aspect of the ranch operation.

Laura Tschudi from Strasbourg, France is pictured here using the ATV to harrow our day pasture. This is one of the many routine jobs we have on the ranch to maintain our pastures.

Meanwhile, Michaela Schilling from a little town on the outskirts of Frankfurt, Germany was getting her hands dirty weeding the flower beds in front of the lodge.
Look out for more news and photographs from Laura and Michaela throughout the summer!
