Our Horses
We have around 30 horses on the ranch year round, all trained and experienced to carry you safely along any of our trails. Our horses, all geldings, are mostly American Quarter Horses and we also have some Paints, Appaloosas, Morgans and of course Billy, our Belgian draft/Appy cross. You can see them all in our photo gallery. All are strong and sure footed, easily able to cope with the sometimes arduous terrain as we climb mountain trails to elevations of 1200m.
We Have the Right Horse for You

Our horses are as varied in personality and experience as our guests and we work hard to match horses with riders so everyone gets a balance of safety and adventure on the trail. Whilst some of our guests prefer to keep the same horse for the duration of their stay, others like to try different horses. We will work with you to ensure that you get the most out of your riding experience here at the ranch.
Get to Know the Horses
Feel free to come to the barn in the morning to watch the Wranglers round up and select the horses for the days rides, then give them a hand with the feeding and grooming. Don’t worry if you’ve never done it before, we’ll show you how. At the end of each days riding, you are also welcome to help the Wranglers unsaddle the horses and turn them out for the night.
Enjoy the Ride
All of our horses are fitted with comfortable trail saddles designed for long hours and tough conditions. Each saddle will be fitted with saddle bags and water bottles providing plenty of room to carry small items such as a camera, lip balm etc. We will also provide slickers tied on to all saddles in case of rain.
We have a supply of safety helmets and riding boots for guests who need them. Please note safety helmets are mandatory for riders aged under 19.
Horses, food, company, hospitality – all wonderful. Loved all of it with full days of riding, learning about saddling, safety, horse care and then a lovely cabin, cozy bed to ready myself for another great day. My special Joker is a dear horse who made me smile every time I saw him. Thank you for the warm welcome and making the week so pleasant…. and for patiently answering a million questions.
